Design of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air (M3)
The Best MacBook Laptops in 2024. You wouldn’t easily distinguish the latest MacBook Air models just by appearance. Although they’ve been updated with newer M3 processors and now support two external displays even when the lid is closed, along with the adoption of Wi-Fi 6E, they maintain the same external design as their predecessors.
For the most part, I’m content with that. I adore the rectangular design of the MacBook Air, although I’m aware that some miss the iconic wedge shape. The new Air models are lightweight, visually pleasing, and don’t distract from my work. Both the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air come in the same four colors: midnight, starlight, space gray, and silver, just like the M2 version. (We tested the 13-inch in starlight and the 15-inch in midnight). The significant aesthetic change is that Apple describes the midnight. The midnight color variant now features an “anodization seal” to prevent fingerprints from accumulating, a common issue with the M2 models. While this doesn’t completely eliminate the possibility of leaving oils on the Mac (despite my efforts to wash my hands, thank you very much), it should improve the reputation of this color option, known for being prone to smudges.

Despite their size difference, both laptops feature identical ports. On the left side, there’s the Mag Safe 3 charging port, accompanied by two Thunderbolt 3 / USB 4 Type-C ports. On the right side, you’ll find only the 3.5mm headphone jack. I do wish Apple would include at least one more Type-C port on the 15-inch Air; it would be convenient to have the option to charge from either side of the laptop

The selection of three color options—Space Gray, Gold, and Silver—remains unchanged. Crafted from premium metal, the sturdy design exudes durability and maintains that coveted MacBook allure, evoking admiration even years after its initial introduction.
In summary, the MacBook Air remains one of the most luxurious and portable devices available. Measuring at 0.63 by 11.97 by 8.36 inches (HWD) and weighing 2.8 pounds, it stands as one of the slimmest laptops on the market and certainly on the lighter end.

Case – A larger MacBook Air
The Best MacBook Laptops in 2024. Apple has maintained the design of the compact MacBook Air 13 for its 15-inch model, with only a slight increase in footprint. Nonetheless, the overall height remains practically unchanged at 11.5 mm. Interestingly, due to the larger case, the new MBA 15 gives the impression of being even thinner than its smaller counterpart. The maximum opening angle, as usual, is around 130 degrees.
The display edges are relatively slim, although some Windows devices boast even thinner edges. Notably, the recess for the webcam in the upper area is still evident, which doesn’t pose any functional drawbacks, at least not in terms of functionality. However, aesthetically, we still find it less appealing, although this is naturally subjective. The craftsmanship is flawless, and the metal case exudes a distinctly premium feel.
Features – Mag Safe and USB 4.0
With two USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 3, USB 4.0) along with Mag Safe on the left side and a 3.5mm jack, the port layout mirrors that of the smaller model. Apple opted not to make any alterations here, leaving the extra space on the case unused. It would have been beneficial to include another USB-C port on the right side and perhaps an SD card reader (similar to the Pro models). Additionally, the larger MacBook Air can only connect to one external display (maximum 6K @60Hz).
